Stanice Etna zůstává i nadále bez nových dat.

Evening Report – August 18, 2026 Solar activity remained moderate throughout the day. The X-ray flux stayed mostly within the lower C-class range, interrupted only by occasional small flares. The Solar Activity Index declined to 3.9, while the NOAA indices settled around 2-. Although flare activity itself was not particularly remarkable, the probability of C-class flares increased to 95%, with a 35% chance of M-class events. The most significant development of the day was the rapid strengthening of the solar wind. Its speed increased to approximately 555 km/s, particle density remained elevated, and the Bz component turned southward to around −10 nT, creating considerably more favourable conditions for geomagnetic activity than earlier in the day. The Etna monitoring station remains unavailable, with the latest published data still dated August 5, 2026. The Tomsk spectrogram changed character markedly during the afternoon. After 17:00, green background noise intensified, extending almost to the bottom of the spectrogram. Shortly after 18:00, a bright white column appeared, spanning the entire height of the graph for roughly twenty minutes. This was followed by a series of our familiar white geraniums, separated by irregularly spaced vertical lines. The final prominent structure appeared around midnight, after which both the green background noise and its golden highlights gradually faded. The Windy synoptic map underwent another substantial reorganization. The high-pressure system that had previously dominated the region around Iceland migrated northwards, settling between Svalbard and Franz Josef Land, leaving the northern circulation far less constrained. Over the Atlantic, the Icelandic low remained in place together with two Azores highs and several smaller pressure systems. Europe became occupied by two low-pressure systems accompanied by numerous smaller centres, while North America displayed a similarly fragmented pressure pattern. Lightning activity increased slightly compared with the morning, although the total number of storm regions remained visually lower than on previous days. Across the Americas, thunderstorms formed an elongated belt stretching from California through the Gulf of Mexico, Bermuda, and towards the Azores. In Europe, activity concentrated mainly over the Atlantic west of Portugal and western Russia. A large new storm complex developed across equatorial Africa, while in Asia, thunderstorms gradually formed a broad arc extending along the coasts of China, Japan, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Summary The events of August 18 remain difficult to interpret as a single coherent picture. During the morning, the monitored systems appeared to evolve almost independently of one another. By evening, however, a few connecting threads began to emerge. The most notable change was not solar flare activity itself, but the pronounced strengthening of the solar wind. At the same time, the Tomsk spectrogram evolved from a remarkably quiet morning into an afternoon filled with white columns, white geraniums, and enhanced background noise. Meanwhile, Windy continued its large-scale reorganization of Northern Hemisphere pressure systems, whereas global lightning activity increased only modestly. Even so, today's observations do not yet justify firm conclusions. The individual systems still appear to be evolving on different timescales, and their mutual relationships remain uncertain. Perhaps the most appropriate conclusion for today is simply this: Some knots are better left untouched until they untangle themselves. Sometimes, the most valuable part of scientific observation is the patience to wait rather than the urge to explain too soon.
